30 Years of Transforming Theological Education
Nearly three decades ago, a simple but powerful idea emerged in Santiago, Chile: what if schools, missionaries, and ministries could share resources instead of duplicating them? That conviction sparked the creation of Horizon Education Network.
From 3 charter affiliates in 1996 to more than 75 partners across six continents today, we've remained committed to one mission: equipping Christian leaders worldwide with high-quality theological education delivered in their own language, culture, and context.
Through collaboration, innovation, and a student-centered approach, we've helped seminaries build robust online programs that train tens of thousands of current and future church leaders—multiplying impact far beyond what any single institution could achieve alone.
The Challenge
While the heart of the Global Church has moved to the South and East, the resources to train its leaders remain concentrated in the West. This "training gap" creates a critical bottleneck for the fastest-growing Christian movements in history. In the United States, pastoral training is widely available and deeply academic. In the Majority World (Africa, Asia, and Latin America), the church is exploding in growth, yet leaders are often forced to shepherd thousands without the benefit of a single theological textbook or a formal classroom.
The result? A church that can be "a mile wide and an inch deep," vulnerable to theological error and leadership burnout. It isn't a lack of willing leaders; it is a lack of infrastructure. Traditional brick-and-mortar seminaries cannot build fast enough or cheaply enough to close this gap. To reach the "97%" who lack advanced training, we must move beyond physical walls and provide digital pathways to excellence.
